The Weather Today

Today it is a damp, cool, Autumn day. The sky is a pale grey which represents the overall mood I feel today. This kind of weather makes me feel relaxed and calm. On days like this, reading is a high priority. The weather gives a good excuse to stay indoors

Have you ever asked yourself, "Who am I?" and "Where do I belong?"? In the past few years I have asked myself those questions and it seems the answer keeps changing. Just when I think I know who I am and where I belong, I'm lost again. Not lost in the literal sense, but in the sense that change happens faster than I can keep up! I'm changing. The world around me is changing. People around me are changing. If I could, I would choose to be in many places at once. I would want to be with my friends in China and my friends and family in America simultaneously.

Another question I've pondered recently is why we must spend most of our lives working. And, when I ask that question I guess I have something specific in mind. Work, unlike it was many years ago, usually confines you to an office chair staring at a computer screen all day. It depresses me to think about being confined to this sort of job. Whatever happened to the importance of family and spending time together. Work keeps the world moving and grooving, I understand that. It seems the pace of life has picked up so that we hardly have time to enjoy what we are working so hard to attain. What happiness can money really buy? More things only complicate life. What we really need to do is stop striving to live at a means we can't afford and rest contented with our family by our side. Then we can truly enjoy what is meant out of life.

The obesity phenomenon taking place in America today is no coincidence considering the fact that most Americans work at jobs that are sedentary. I, myself find it extremely challenging to get enough physical activity each day to maintain optimal health. It is also a mind boggler how many Americans eat. I find it much more difficult to eat a truly healthy diet these days. Everything that is sugar free has artifitial sweetener. Fruits and vegetables are expensive. Most food is processed to the point that most vital nutrients are gone. Americans have found themselves addicted to sugar, alcohol, cigarettes...etc. The crime rate is ever-increasing. Life here is so complex and high maintenance. Cell phones. Internet. Cars. Insurance for this and that. Taxes.

Psalm 119:165

Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.
Thou hast formed us for Thyself,
and our hearts are restless 'til they find rest in Thee.

-St. Augustine
